Calgary : Shiki Menya
Shiki Menya - A Ramen Restaurant located in Calgary's Bridgeland community
@ 827 1st Ave NE
> Yes! Finally I made it in before they sold out, at about 1:15pm
I had my official visit in June, with a girl friend when we both got off class early. I've heard of all the hype for a few months and ever since I given Goru + Gun a go, I figured I needed to do my round of ramen snooping in Calgary! Plus mind you, I rarely ever would turn down a good bowl of ramen. With the amount of Vancouver and Toronto city hopping I've been this year, delicious ramen is one of my top loves!
Shiki Menya is known for their fresh in-house 'made from scratch' ramen noodles and broth. With 16 hours of prep work in extracting all the flavours for the soup, this place only sells 150 bowls a day. So once the noodles are gone, they are too! (I had a love and dislike towards the hours of this place at first, however upon my visit and seeing the line up, it got me filled with excitement and anticipation! (Kind of like the first time I lined up for brunch at Monki' when I first went!) Since line ups usually mean they're doing something right inside!
Shiki Menya's noodles by far is probably one of the best I've had to date. If you're an avid ramen nom-nom-er, you would most likely tell the difference. The char siu was thick, juicy, flavourful and I loved the light grilled marks. I ordered the Tonkotsu Black, the speciality was the black garlic oil and squid ink garlic used.
I'll definitely be back for more in the future, especially once Calgary start's getting colder! Hot soup and noodles are a must!
