TOT The Cat Cafe
TOT - The Cat Cafe
298 College St | opened 10am-8pm daily
Last week I made a new friend in Toronto, from our conversations about anything to everything between eating and dancing in cafe's… we started talking about cats. Why? Well because, why not? I miss my cat Yoru, and it’s been a little over two weeks since I’ve left Calgary so I hope he’s not going to hold another grudge against me for that.
It’s always interesting how the universe works, I was scheduled to fly out of Toronto last night, however with some minor hiccups I had to reschedule to fly out today. Interestingly about 4-5 days ago I was joking to my friend that maybe I should purposely stay back just to visit the cafe before I leave… so I guess in a way I got exactly what I asked for. And yes, it was worth it. I met 5 adorable cats who were all super friendly, cuddly and playful.
When I managed to find my way to the Cafe down on 298 College St, I was warmly greeted by a lovely employee who manned the Cat room entrance, his smile was a great welcome into the space that I was so eager to explore. My friend arrived before me so yay to no crazy line up’s as anticipated. We were placed on the waitlist for no longer than about 20 mins before we were invited in. However before that, it is required for any guests who wants to enter to first purchase a beverage. They offer a great array of different tea’s, latte’s and juice, all available to be paired up with 3 different cake’s this morning. Pricing was fair and the service from the ladies in the cafe was really friendly and efficient!
Once it was our turn to head into the cat playroom, someone will call and hand you a numbered TOT kitty lanyard. They don’t allow flash photography + outdoor shoes (which is great! I wouldn’t want any outdoor germs to be left around where the cats are roaming), so they provide adorable cat slippers for people before they enter. After sanitizing my hands, I entered the anticipated space. They had kitty paw cushions lined up against the wall, a few wall walk way’s, cat baskets and many other scratch worthy items + cat toys all around. There was a total of 5 cats in the room when I arrived, a black and white cat who was incredibly playful and spunky named Gragamel, 3 beautiful black cat’s (who were mostly enjoying their afternoon nap) and my favourite cat in the room was a beautiful gray/caramel/white cat named Tiana. (It was my first time seeing a cat in this colour. See image(s) below!)
If I was a stressed out student in the area I’d probably be here every day studying and unwinding with these adorable fur babies! I loved the concept of Cat Cafe’s, it allows people who can’t have pet’s be able to interact with feline’s in an open, loving space rather than behind a cage in a pet store. All the cats are available for adoption making it a win win situation between the Toronto animal Humane Society and people who are looking to adopt people friendly cats.
Thank you TOT - The Cat Cafe for opening at the perfect time while I was still in Toronto, added with a Nutella Cafe grand opening, I had quite the week of enjoying new places to explore on this Toronto trip.
TOT - The Cat Cafe is Toronto’s first and Canada’s second Cat Cafe.
